Estate Planning is so much more than determining which children receive which assets when you die.
It is about taking the opportunities in life as well as in death, to help your loved ones grow and
prosper. Warren Buffet, a personal hero of mine, summarized the goal of Estate Planning best in a
1986 interview with a reporter from Fortune Magazine,
"My kids are going to carve out their own place in this world, and they know I'm for them
whatever the want to do. But setting up ones heirs with a lifetime supply of food stamps just because
they came out of the right womb can be harmful for them and is an antisocial act. The perfect
amount to leave children is enough money so that they would feel they could do anything, but not
so much that they could do nothing."
