Robert J. Guendelsberger 1950-2022
Robert J. Guendelsberger, 71, prominent New Milford Attorney of Brookfield and formerly of New Milford, passed away suddenly on July 1, 2022, in Westerly, RI.
Robert was born in Jamaica, NY on November 13, 1950, to the late Harold Guendelsberger and Audrey (Mack) Pogonowski. Bob grew up in Candlewood Trails in New Milford with his brothers and sister. He enjoyed snow skiing, boating on Candlewood Lake, frequenting casinos, attending concerts, listening to Doo-Wop music, going on cruises, and loved the NY Giants. Bob found a love for Block Island in 1969 and would spend time there every year.
Bob was the Sr. partner of Guendelsberger Law Offices. He lived his life with the love of practicing Law and advocating for his clients.
Bob was active for many years in politics and community affairs. He was a former member of the New Milford Board of Education, New Milford Town Council and New Milford Republican Town Committee. He also served as Chairman of both the Board of Education and Republican Town Committee for many years.
Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara Guendelsberger; his children: Rebecca Waterman (Brian), Gretchen Ewers (Benjamin), Kaitlin Gingras (Travis) all of FL, Heidi Guendelsberger of VT; and his grandchildren: Bradford and Samantha Waterman, Landen and Tobias Ewers, Keira, Kayla and Katalina Gingras. He is also survived by his siblings: Debbie Golembeski (Dwayne) of FL, Eddie Pogonowski (Beth) of OR, Gary Guendelsberger (Phyllis) of RI, and John Pogonowski of MA.

New Milford Attorney Robert J. Guendelsberger founded the Guendelsberger Law Offices, LLP law firm in 1983. Over the years, the firm has grown to fourteen legal counsel and staff and effectively assists its clients throughout Litchfield and Fairfield counties. Bob made it a priority that the law firm remains committed to providing top-quality legal services to clients.
Attorney Guendelsberger was known throughout the community and legal profession as an aggressive advocate and an exceptional attorney. Bob brought cases to trial without hesitation for three decades. He was a member of the litigation and workers’ compensation sections of the American Bar Association and the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association for over thirty years.
Aside from his practice, he has dedicated much of his time to serving the community via his position as a member and Chairperson of the New Milford School Board (1991-2001) and as a member of the New Milford Town Council (2001-2010).
Bob has also been a Justice of the Peace since 1976.
